Serena Williams defeated Venus Williams, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4), in the Bangalore semifinals on Saturday. Both sisters had match points before the 3rd set tiebreak but failed to convert. “It was a close match, although we both weren’t at our best,” said Serena after the match. The match was decided by only a few points. Awaiting in the final for Serena is Patty Schynder, who defeated Yan Zi, 6-3, 6-4, in the other semifinal.

Serena and Venus Williams are scheduled to meet in the Bangalore semifinals. This will be their first meeting since the U.S. Open 2005. Venus won it in straight sets. The two have dueled it out 14 times before and are locked at 7-7 head to head. To reach the semis, Venus beat Vera Zvonoreva, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Serena destroyed Anastasia Rodionova, 6-1, 6-4, in her quarterfinal match. “[It] would have been nice if we’d met in the final,” Venus told the press after the match. We agree, Venus.

Venus Williams crashed out of Memphis in the first round to qualifier Petra Kvitova, 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. It was Kvitova’s second career WTA Tour match win. Venus, I’m sorry but this is inexcusable. From now on you should only play Wimbledon because obviously you are just not getting results outside of SW19.
