Everyone’s favorite tennis player gone Playboy is knocked up. John McEnroe reported this groundbreaking story during coverage of the U.S. Open earlier today. I’m guessing this is why she didn’t play the Open. The father is (thankfully) her fiancee/coach, Chuck Adams. Congratulations, Ash, I guess.

Ashley talked about her recent Playboy appearance and some other stuff too.
On Fit Sex:
“I do think athletes have better sex,” she asserts with a bashful giggle. “Who wants a waify girl with no definition to her body? I like that I have some power and that everything’s tight.”
On Lesbos in the Locker Room:
“Tennis players don’t mind showing off their bodies,” she said. “Often in the locker room I feel other girls’ eyes on me.”
On What She Thinks About The World’s Foremost Tennis Sex Symbol:
“Anna [Kournikova] is stunning to look at, but she’s probably a bit damaged from what she’s been through. That’s how she acts — a bit damaged.”
Oh my God, Ashley. I cannot wait until the mag comes out and you can cease to be relevant again because you obviously have no idea what is coming out of your mouth sometimes. And to tell you the truth, I’m sick of blogging about you.

American sweetheart, Ashley Harkleroad, has confirmed her appearance in the August issue of Playboy Magazine. The 23 year-old said, I’m proud of my body. I was representing a female athlete’s body.” She will be the first tennis player to appear in the magazine. The exact contents of the shoot were not revealed by Harkleroad.

Right when it seemed Ashley Harkleroad was going to get back to the top, another disaster happens. Harkleroad will be out until May, recovering from surgery to remove an ovary. She first noticed the pain in her abdominal region during her first round match against Razzano in Miami. She underwent and ultrasound and it revealed a blood-filled cyst on one of her ovaries. The doctor administering the ultrasound told her she was ok to play as long as she could endure the pain. She continued to play and during her match against Elena Vesnina the pain was so bad she could not even take a drink of water, leading to dehydration. That night Harkleroad spent several hours vomiting and growing weaker and weaker. Her boyfriend/coach finally called 911. In the ambulance, Ashley had a panic attack after being told the cyst had ruptured and was now bleeding internally. She was then taking into emergency surgery to remove the ovary. “The good news is that if I want to have babies, the doctors said ‘No problem,’” Harkleroad said. When asked if she would take legal action against the doctor who told her to continue playing she said, “Let’s not go there now,”

Ashley Harklroad has recently decided to live up to her potential and play some good tennis, for once. After years of bagels and first road losses, Ashley seems as if shes shown up to play for 2008. First, her heroics in Fed Cup led the U.S. team to a 4-1 victory over Germany. At Indian Wells she made it to the 4th round, taking out Lucie Safarova and Dinara Safina in the process. Now today in Miami she upset the 23 seed, Virginie Razzano, in straight sets. Maybe Ashley will finally deliver the long-awaited spark in American women’s tennis that many thought she would give years ago.
